east was set up as a result of two firm beliefs. The first is that, at the beginning of the third millennium, with globalisation now well underway, it is necessary to undertake an unprejudiced analysis of and open comparison with the emerging Asian leadership. The second is that Europe must principally be built on a foundation of ideas, rediscovering and enhancing its common roots without hiding the often-substantial differences that persist among its various partners.

east is therefore intended to be a free and independent platform for the emerging European leadership to meet and exchange views.

At the magazine, we are convinced that the enlargement of Europe and the successive steps of the process are an extraordinary opportunity for growth and wellbeing. Our intention is to dedicate a great deal of attention to analysing every aspect of the integration process, whether political, institutional, economic, social or cultural, as well as aspects concerning the sphere of fundamental rights and freedoms.
